Choose based on the receiving team's capability
If internal AEs already run a repeatable process and need account coverage, SDR support may be enough. If no one owns discovery, technical coordination or negotiation, the same package leaves major work unresolved. Map those stages before choosing a provider.
Full outsourcing still needs client product expertise, implementation readiness and exceptional approvals. It does not replace governance or transfer employment decisions. Specify allocation and boundaries so a broad label does not imply unlimited staffing.
| Decision | Evidence to use | What changes next |
|---|---|---|
| SDR work | Research, outreach, response development and accepted handoff | Internal AEs own later progression as agreed |
| Full-cycle work | Discovery, evaluation, business case and terms included | External commercial lead owns agreed progression |
| Client work | Product, delivery, approvals and internal successor | Company retains decisions the partner cannot authorize |
Work through the decision
Illustrative team A has experienced AEs and a clear qualification process, but weak prospecting coverage. Team B has a founder handling all selling and an unfinished CRM. SDR capacity can help A directly; B needs to decide who will receive and progress the conversations.
For B, a full-cycle partner may fit if the economics and product readiness support it. Alternatively, a focused internal hire may be better. The correct choice follows the work and constraints, not the provider's preferred package name.
A full-service label hides a meeting-only delivery
Ask who conducts discovery and negotiates the agreement. If the client must do all later work, price and evaluate the proposal as development support. Useful limited scope should be described honestly.
A concrete next step
Color the included tasks on your account-to-agreement journey for each proposed model. Choose the model that covers the bottleneck and leaves a viable internal path.
