Automate tasks whose outputs can be checked
Choose bounded tasks with a clear input, output and failure condition. Source collection can retain URLs and dates; a draft can identify assumptions for review; routing can flag ambiguity. The human owner should be able to inspect and correct the result before it affects a buyer or commercial record.
Define actions that require approval: external sends, sensitive access, exceptional terms, product commitments and opportunity acceptance where appropriate. Keep logs and rollback or recovery paths. Evaluate failures as well as normal cases, including stale sources, conflicting instructions and explicit opt-outs.
| Decision | Evidence to use | What changes next |
|---|---|---|
| Evidence support | Sources, dates and uncertainty preserved | Human can verify the account reasoning |
| Operating assistance | Draft, summary or routing suggestion with bounded scope | Human reviews ambiguity and consequential actions |
| Commercial authority | Product, price, qualification and buyer commitments | Accountable people retain approval and judgment |
Work through the decision
Illustrative agent task: collect public product and pricing facts, propose an account hypothesis and draft a neutral workflow question. A seller verifies sources and rejects an unsupported inference before any send.
A reply containing both a referral and removal request is flagged for review, while suppression takes priority. The agent must not continue a sequence because a sentiment model labeled the text positive. Test these exceptions and keep buyer content out of generic analytics or public artifacts.
Fluent output is mistaken for reliable commercial evidence
A convincing memo can contain stale sources or invented conclusions. Require provenance and explicit unknowns. Human review should focus on the decision-changing claims rather than merely polishing the wording.
A concrete next step
Pick one bounded internal task and define its acceptance and failure cases. Pilot it with review before allowing any external action or automatic qualified-state change.
