Build the review around the missing decision
Keep the confirmed evidence concise and link supporting notes. Label assumed value or timing and identify who can validate it. Use the unresolved-decision field to focus review: budget authority, evaluation criteria, security or implementation may each require a different action.
A next action must have an owner and a purpose. 'Follow up' is insufficient if the team does not know which decision it is trying to resolve. Keep dates meaningful: a review date is not a claimed close date. Preserve rejected and lost reasons so the worksheet also improves the motion.
| Decision | Evidence to use | What changes next |
|---|---|---|
| Established progress | Stage, buyer evidence and supporting record | Verify that the current state is justified |
| Remaining decision | Risk, unknown and person able to resolve it | Choose the highest-value next question or action |
| Owned action | Mutual step, owner and review timing | Make progress accountable without inventing urgency |
Work through the decision
Illustrative row: 'Evaluation agreed; engineering confirmed a standard integration test; success criteria still need product leadership; AE will arrange a criteria discussion with the champion; review Friday; annual value assumed until scope is agreed.'
That row does not promise a signature on Friday. It states what the review should inspect. If the buyer declines the discussion, update the evidence and stage rather than rolling the date forward indefinitely. The worksheet should preserve reality even when that makes the forecast less optimistic.
The worksheet becomes a second inconsistent CRM
Decide which system is authoritative. Use the worksheet as a review/export view or synchronize it deliberately. Conflicting owners and stage names can create more work than the template saves.
A concrete next step
Download the pipeline worksheet and populate three active opportunities. Ask the team to choose the next action from the row alone; improve the fields where context is missing.
