Inspect the bridge from research to a buyer decision
Ask the provider to trace one account: why it fits, what source supports the hypothesis, who is relevant, how a reply is handled and what the receiving seller needs. Each step should retain the account context instead of producing another disconnected report.
A lead generation provider can be valuable without owning closing, provided the boundary is clear. The problem is not limited scope; it is ambiguous scope. If an AE is expected to receive the handoff, confirm their capacity and acceptance criteria. If there is no AE, a meeting package leaves the next stage unstaffed.
| Decision | Evidence to use | What changes next |
|---|---|---|
| Research relevance | Account facts, disqualifiers and validation question | Seller understands why the contact is approached |
| Response ownership | Reply classification, suppression and next action | Buyer receives appropriate human follow-up |
| Commercial acceptance | Evidence, named seller and reasoned accept/return/reject | Research becomes a usable selling record |
Work through the decision
Illustrative flow: research identifies a platform with differentiated access plans. A contact replies with a technical question. The provider attaches the reply and source context to the account, assigns a seller and records the question for product support.
The seller conducts discovery before counting an opportunity. If the problem is already solved, the record returns a rejection reason to research. That feedback loop distinguishes connected lead generation from simply delivering contacts at scale.
The provider ends where the client's bottleneck begins
If your founder already struggles with discovery and follow-up, buying more meetings can amplify the problem. Ask what happens after the call is booked and who has capacity to own it. Scope the missing stage rather than adding activity upstream.
A concrete next step
Ask for an anonymized end-to-end record and compare it with your AE's needs. Mark missing evidence and work before selecting a package.
