Inspect what happens after a useful reply
Campaign quality includes account relevance, responsible infrastructure, message accuracy, suppression and human response handling. A provider should show how a technical question, referral, objection and opt-out move through the system. The positive-reply count is only one operating measure.
For full-cycle scope, identify who runs discovery, who supports product questions and who manages evaluation and terms. Define approval boundaries and a client-owned record. If your founder receives every reply and still closes every deal, the provider may be doing useful channel work, but it has not assumed the entire motion.
| Decision | Evidence to use | What changes next |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign work | Account criteria, sender monitoring and message test | Creates relevant opportunities for conversation |
| Reply work | Classification, suppression and named human owner | Protects buyer experience and prevents lost interest |
| Selling work | Discovery, acceptance, evaluation and terms | Progresses an actual buying decision within scope |
Work through the decision
Illustrative reply: a buyer asks whether the product supports its architecture. The channel team should pause automated follow-ups, attach the account context and route the question to the seller and product expert. A precise answer and neutral discovery question come before assigning deal value.
If the buyer confirms a project, the seller manages an evaluation plan. If the architecture is unsupported, the record is rejected with a reason. An agency that can explain both paths is easier to evaluate than one that reports only positive sentiment.
High reply rates hide unowned conversations
A reply rate can include objections, automatic responses or irrelevant interest. Inspect classification and outcomes. Ask who notices an unanswered technical question or a rescheduled meeting; unresolved ownership can waste the attention the campaign earned.
A concrete next step
Ask candidates to trace one useful reply and one rejection through their workflow. Compare the actual selling responsibilities with your team's capacity.
